Qur’an and Music

This quote on page 148 of Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Ghazi’s book “Quran Lectures” has opened many doors of surprise for me. He writes: You must have heard the name of Dr. Hameed Ullah Sahib. He directly narrated this incident to me that a person came to him probably in 1958-1957. It was a normal routine in his life that every day two or four people would come to him and accept Islam. It was one such day that a gentleman came and said that I want to accept Islam. As usual, the doctor recited the kalma Shahada to them and presented a brief introduction to Islam in front of them. Give them some of your books.

Dr. Sahib said that it was his custom that whenever someone accepted Islam at his hands, he would ask him what had influenced him in Islam? From 1948 to 1996, it was a custom that Dr. Sahib An average of two people accepted Islam every day at his hands. Generally, people shared their views about Islam, they were similar. Among them, the doctor used to keep the relatively more important and new things in his pen. What this person told, according to the doctor, was very strange and unique and it was also very surprising for me.

Regarding what he said, the doctor said that I did not understand it at all, and I cannot give any technical opinion about it. The man said: My name is “Yak Yelbiar”, I am one of the greatest musicians in the French-speaking world and the recipient of many international awards. The songs I composed and sang are very popular in the French-speaking world. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to attend a dinner with an Arab ambassador. When I reached there, all the people had gathered and were quietly listening to a particular style of music. When I heard that music, I felt like it was something very high in the world of music that these people were listening to. The tunes of the voices and their inflections that I have invented myself, this music is far beyond that, but the world still needs a lot of time to reach this level of music, at least I have such a rhythm of the voice. never heard.

I wondered who invented the music and who composed the lyrics. When I wanted to know who composed these tunes, people silenced me with a gesture, but after a while I was not released and I asked the same thing again, but the audience present silenced me. Dr Sahib says that during this conversation he was also using some terms of art and music, which I am not familiar with, because art and music is not my field.

Long story short, when the music ended and the sound stopped, he then eagerly and anxiously asked the people what it was all about. People said that it was not music, but the recitation of the Holy Quran and the recitation of such and such a reciter. The musician said that surely this will be the recitation of a reciter and it will be the Qur’an, but who composed this music and who composed these lyrics? The Muslim attendees there explained in no uncertain terms that these tunes are not composed by anyone, nor are these readers familiar with the meaning of music. The musician replied that it could not be that these tunes were not composed by someone, but he was assured that the Holy Qur’an had never had anything to do with any tune or the art of music. This art is Tajweed and is a completely different thing.

He then asked, “Well, tell me, when was this art of “Tajweed” and recitation invented?” People said that this art has been going on for more than 14 centuries. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave the Qur’an to the people, he gave it along with the principles of Tajweed. On this the musician said that if Muhammad (PBUH) has taught his people the Qur’an in the same way as I have just heard, then it is undoubtedly the book of Allah. Because the rules and regulations of the art of music that are seen in this style of recitation are so high and noble that the world has not yet reached them.

Dr. Hameed Ullah was unable to understand what he was saying. The man said, “Later, I listened to the recitation of the Qur’an by other reciters, went to the mosque and listened to it read by different people, and I became convinced that it is the Book of Allah, and if it is the Book of Allah, then Those who brought it were indeed the messengers of Allah, so convert me to Islam. The doctor says that I converted him to Islam by reciting the word of martyrdom, but I do not know to what extent what he was saying was true, because I am not a man of this art.

The doctor said that I appointed an Algerian Muslim who was studying in Paris for his religious education at the extreme insistence of this new Muslim musician. About a month and a half later, they both came to me and seemed a bit worried. The Algerian teacher told me that he was expressing some doubts about the Qur’an to which I had no answer. Dr. says that I thought that the basis on which this person had believed was also not understood by me. Now what should I answer his doubts and how should I give them, but in the name of Allah, I asked him the doubt?

This neo-Muslim said that you told me and also in the books, I have read that the Holy Qur’an exists today in exactly the same form in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who brought it entrusted it to the Companions. The doctor replied that it is indeed so. Now he said that as much as he has taught me the Qur’an so far, I think that there is one place in it that something has been deleted. He told me that he has taught me Surah Nasr and in it there is a gap between “Afwaja” and “Fasabbih”. The way they have taught me, there has been dedication. Devotion breaks the chain there which should not be broken whereas my art says there should not be a gap.

The doctor used to say that hearing this, the ground came out from under my feet, and I did not understand anything, how to answer this suspicion and how to satisfy it. It is said that I immediately looked at the world of Islam and did not see a single person who was familiar with art and music and knew Tajweed. Dr. Sahib says that after a few seconds of hesitation, Allah  suddenly put an old thing in my mind that in my childhood, when I used to read the Holy Quran in school, my teacher told me that “Afwaja” But should not be dedicated but should be read together with the latter word. Once I dedicated on “forces”, he punished me for that and strongly insisted that the forces should be studied together.

I thought that maybe this would remove his suspicion and give him satisfaction. I told him that your teachers are not so expert in Tajweed. In fact, here this word will be read together with Ghana from the front. “Afwaja Fasabbih”. The doctor said so much that he jumped up with joy and took me in his lap and started dancing in the room and said that it really should be like this. After hearing this, I entrusted him to another reader who taught him the entire Holy Qur’an. He used to meet me from time to time and used to recite a lot that this is indeed the book of Allah. He proved to be a good Muslim and died around 1970 after leading a successful Islamic life. This incident makes me think that the phonetics of the Holy Qur’an is a world of knowledge and art in which no researcher has ever landed, nor has anyone discussed this aspect of the Holy Qur’an in this way.

Readers! This incident took me back ten years when my wife’s entire body was severely affected and disabled due to stroke. This sudden fall made the world dark and finally a whole board of doctors was available for all the tests of the wife for her treatment and diagnosis and luckily the world’s greatest physician “Professor Baker” was hired.

Gone. There was a dead silence in the conference room, not knowing what to announce. After all the relevant tests, Dr. Baker removed the glasses from his blue eyes and stared at my face, and I felt like my heart was in my throat. The professor first explained all the test results and finally told me very sadly that the patient only had two weeks, but I was very surprised that the patient had this brain attack that killed her. Paralyzed the whole body but how his face, throat, nose, eyes and ears survived this attack when this is not possible in medical science, and I have seen this for the first time in my 32 years of experience?

At Professor Baker’s announcement, my eyes darkened and my heartbeat so fast that I stared at his face in bewilderment as if it might bear some good news. Addressing the professor, I said, “I do not dare to deny the experience of the whole board of doctors, but as to the opinion given about the wife’s face, I wish to state that by the Lord it The test has come, I have found my wife to be a lover of the Qur’an throughout my married life and it is possible that my Lord has kept her face completely safe by reading and following this Qur’an. After saying this, I stood up. Immediately, the professor put both his hands on my shoulders and advised me in a very beautiful way that “we doctor only form our opinions based on our experiences, but not necessarily completely. However, I totally agree with you that we have to believe in the miracles that we sometimes see.

The wife lived for six years after the incident, but due to her disability and serious illness, she had to be transferred to a nursing home. Even in this situation, she was always engaged in Quran and Tasbihat (Remembrance Allah). Miraculously, the right side of his body started to move, and hope stopped and Professor Baker was also very surprised at this change. One day, when the professor came to take care of his wife, we were all listening to the recitation of “Surah Rahman” in the voice of late Qari Abdul Basit. When I turned down the volume on the laptop, he forbade me and started listening to it with great dismay. I was watching the changes in his face. When the surah was completed, he asked me about it, and he spontaneously said that I wanted this sound to continue and never end, while I am completely ignorant of its meaning and meaning, but it is on my heart. It had a direct effect.

We used to listen to Surah Rahman most of the day but that day I was very surprised when the English director of the nursing home “Simon” requested me about this Surah to open the door of my room and keep the volume bit loud. Let me put it in the voice so that the rest of the patients also benefit from it, as the majority of the patients stand outside the door and feel great comfort listening to it with great silence. Among these patients was a 91-year-old “Ernest Tomlison” who was suffering from cancer and was screaming and writhing all day in great agony. It was pain killer injected daily to get rid of this cancer. One day when he heard Surah Rahman, he sent a nurse to follow the voice. On finding out, he requested to come to our room.

Amazingly he listened to it with great silence and humbly requested that I be allowed to come to the room to listen to him every day while I arranged it in his room. This matter escalated to such an extent that recitation of Surah Rahman was arranged regularly for two hours every day in the nursing home. The wife went to God on the 27th night of Ramadan, but later I was told that “Ernest” was a famous British musician, and his hundreds of songs are very famous all over the world.

I don’t know what the logical reasons of this whole incident are but after reading this incident mountains of wonder broke on me why we have finally turned away from the research while the testimonies of non-Muslim researchers are coming out openly. . In the recent review report of American research universities, it has been clarified that the rate of disease among religious people is low and their defence power is higher compared to others. The victims of high blood pressure are generally people aged 65 years. But this ratio is less than 40% among religious people. It should be noted that blood pressure generally affects the heart and brain and in these conditions the possibility of bursting of cerebral veins increases. The order is a positive and correct order which has better and healthy effects on the human body and the pious are less prone to diseases than the common people.

The importance of this research report is also increased by the fact that it has been revealed by purely academic and research companies of American universities and it has been revealed in a society that is purely materialistic, which does not see things beyond the senses, then It has been admitted by experts and researchers who make pure universal foundations their standard, and then in such an age when materialism dominates everywhere and people suffer from spiritual poverty.

Since ancient times, medicine and treatment have been connected with religion and religion, but those who were cured of diseases would go to scholars and priests, and those spiritual leaders would treat them in certain ways, and this method was prevalent in Babylon, Chaldan, and Assyria. The use of amulets and amulets was common in Egypt and India since ancient times. The Greeks were particularly interested in the pious class, the sick visited the synagogues, and the priests were known to diagnose diseases and cures through dreams.

In the past, people used to associate diseases and cures with religion and religion, but today, by mixing in the western and materialistic civilization, people have become completely oblivious to it, and even after suffering from countless incurable diseases, they should be cursed with religion, morals, and high values. This is the reason why man has become a victim of numerous physical and psychological diseases. These diseases are abundant in societies that are immersed in materialism and are far away from virtues and morals. Today, the graphs of the most dangerous diseases are increasing, deadly diseases like AIDS, drug addiction, heart diseases, seizures and diabetes are common. have been According to a review, 13% of the American population is suffering from psychiatric diseases, 85% of people are suffering from mental and mental disorders, 50% of seats in hospitals are reserved for patients who are suffering from mental and mental diseases.

The followers of previous religions were connected with religion and religion, while religions were self-made by humans. The heavenly religions are more capable of connecting medicine and treatment with religion. The religion of Islam, which is free from all kinds of distortions and interpretations, has this responsibility on it, while in verse 9 of Surah Al-Hajr, it says: Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.” The religion of Islam is a religion of guidance and mercy for all humanity, a perfect and complete model of life, a comforter of human life and a relief from sufferings and pains. He is the guardian, the guarantor of the welfare of this world and the hereafter. Diseases and their causes and cures are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith, but alas, we have turned away from the study and research of the Qur’an.
